Upon arrival at Cape Town Airport, you will meet your driver guide at the arrival's hall who will transfer you to your luxury oceanside accommodation, Tintswalo Atlantic, just outside Cape Town and in the Table Mountain National Park.
Tonight, we will have a welcome dinner onsite and tour briefing.
This morning you will be picked up at your hotel around 8:30 am for a full day privately guided Cape Town Tour. You will visit:
Boulders Bay colony of African Penguins is one of the most accessible in Africa. Boulders Beach is only short drive from Hout Bay and here you can take the walkways and get up close to hundreds of of these birds in their tuxedos. Very cute.
Kirstenbosch is an important botanical garden nestled at the eastern foot of Table Mountain in Cape Town. Kirstenbosch places a strong emphasis on the cultivation of indigenous plants. When Kirstenbosch was founded in 1913 to preserve the flora native to the South Africa’s territory, it was the first botanical garden in the world with this ethos, at a time when invasive species were not considered an ecological and environmental problem.
The garden includes a large conservatory (The Botanical Society Conservatory) exhibiting plants from a number of different regions, including savanna, fynbos, karoo and others. Outdoors, the focus is on plants native to the Cape region, highlighted by the spectacular collections of proteas.
The tour starts not far from your accommodation where you can spend some time going through the Nelson Mandela Museum which is situated where the ferry leaves. Robben Island is the place where Nelson Mandela and others were kept in hard labor captivity for so long. We take a ferry to the Island where ex-inmates run the tour, giving you an authentic insight to conditions, survival and finally freedom.
One of the 7 natural wonders of the world. It begins with the famous cable car ride to the top. This is an experience in itself with stunning views that cover Cape Town, the coastline and rugged mountains. Once on top you can explore the different flora and fauna (Dasies everywhere) and chose different trekking paths and views before descending once more just before sunset.
Signature Hill is part of the Table Mountain range and is a terrific spot to watch the sunset and the dazzling light of Cape Town emerge over this magical city.
After sundowners we will return you to your accommodation to refresh before dinner.
Today after breakfast, we will check out and transfer to Stony Point Penguins, Betty's Bay.
Boulders Bay colony of African Penguins is one of the most accessible in Africa. Boulders Beach is only short drive from Hout Bay and here you can take the walkways and get up close to hundreds of these birds in their tuxedos. Very cute.
The Stony Point land-based penguin colony, operated by Cape Nature, is the third-largest breeding colony of African Penguins in the world and has been showing a measurable increase in breeding pairs. A thoughtfully constructed boardwalk allows visitors to meander through the reserve and closely observe the penguins in their natural habitat.
After the visit, we will continue 20 minutes further down the coast and turn inland to
the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley wine region for a food and wine tour.
It is in this land that we find our home, literally named Hemel-en-Aarde or Heaven-and- Earth, known for its fine wines. Explore the land between heaven and earth on one of our safari-style vehicles. Hop from wine estate to cellar door tasting and comparing the wines characteristic to this region like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as well as a wide variety of other cultivars.
Wine Hoppers is a uniquely South African experience expertly bringing together two things we love safaris and wine.
After the food and wine tour we transfer a further 30 minutes to the Internationally award winning Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. to check in, freshen up and enjoy dinner ahead of our 3-night stay at this spectacular location. We have you arriving in the Secret Season which is a perfect blend of nature flowering in the surrounding fynbox and the whales arriving for calving season.
Today after breakfast, you will chose what to do on this day among these inclusive activities.
The Southern Right whales visit Walker Bay each year and being witness to them in action whilst they breach and blow is a very special experience to observe. These peaceful giants of the deep come to Walker Bay to mate and calf in the sanctuary of the Bay. The Walker Bay rocky outcrops offer close viewing points from elevated positions. The Grootbos guides know all the best spots and this guided experience is an experience of a lifetime.
Keep still, listen intently and you’ll be amazed at the things you learn on a botanical safari. With the richest temperate flora in the world and six completely new species never discovered by science before, your time at Grootbos will mean that you’ll never look at plants and flowers in quite the same way again.
The 800 recorded plant species in our 2500 hectares of pristine wilderness will bring the fascinating story of fynbos and forest to life as you touch, smell and see the natural miracles that surround you. Learn how a sunbird’s beak fits perfectly into a flower, why the honey our bees produce is completely unique and how important ravaging fires are for bringing forth new life.
As a guest at Grootbos, there are so many different ways to enjoy the beach. You can take a long, relaxing walk on a solitary shore; laze in the sun on the luxurious white sand; or explore the unique coastal ecosystem while looking out for frolicking whales.
Our guides know exactly where to take you for the best swimming, tanning, walking, whale watching, angling and several other oceanic experiences on offer. We’ll transport you to and from the beach and provide you with a picnic lunch and all the beach accessories you need to enjoy your day in the sun.
Grootbos also offers guided beach tours where you can learn about the unique intertidal ecosystem; the abundant marine life; the coastal vegetation; and the geological forces that gave this coast its dramatic form.
Enjoy an entrancing stroll through our Milkwood forest or a more revitalising hike up our fynbos-clad mountains, as you begin to understand what makes Grootbos quite so special. From a sunbird sipping from a flower to an ocean vista that leaves you breathless, surprises await you around every corner.
Trails are all well marked and you can choose between self-guided walks or guided walks, to learn more about these fascinating and secretive eco-systems. Gaze into the petals of a King Protea, breathe in the blackcurrant scent of buchu or simply listen to the exquisite silence that surrounds you
Make the end of your day in paradise from one of our sundwner spots high up on the reserve with ebdless vistas in every direction or on Piano Rock as you sip your favourite drink to crashing of the waves and the breaching of the Southern Right Whales.

Be it a gentle walk, or challenging trail to a secluded rock pool which invites one to submerge into its invigorating bliss and then returning to your lodge for a scrumptious meal, Sanbona Wildlife Reserve has all of this and much more to offer.
Sanbona Wildlife Reserve has about 600 species of plants and it is intriguing to know that various species are flowering at different times throughout the year, although some more prolific between August and September.
Approximately half of the reserve used to be livestock and agricultural farms and all aspects of farming are systematically being removed. There are various floral kingdoms that make up the Reserve. These include Acacia Thickets, Nama, Karoo, Renosterveld, Succulent Karoo and Central Mountain Fynbos. Succulents are especially varied and fascinating with names like Baby’s Bottoms, Ostrich Toes and Pig’s Ears.
Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhinoceros as well as various other species such as Gemsbok, Springbok, Hartebeest, Eland, Kudu, Black Wildebeest and Zebra will be seen on Sanbona Wildlife Reserve. Natural small game such as Jackal, Caracal, Aardwolf, Ant bear, Brown Hyena, Grey Rhebuck, Steenbuck, Klipspringer, Grysbok and Common Duiker continue to thrive.
The San people of Africa roamed the area for thousands of years until 100 years ago.
The /Xam tribe, the nomadic hunter-gatherers living in harmony with nature realised then that man and nature together is sustainable.
There are 7 recorded sites throughout Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, however many more can be found. Rock art sites date back to Animals that roamed the area freely living amongst the San but were eradicated are being reintroduced. The Big 5 – Lion, more than 3500 years and depict the spiritual beliefs and lives of these fascinating people. During their travels, members of the group would congregate around a communal fire, weaving stories and celebrating the gift of life while the Shaman would meditate through rhythmic dancing, singing and clapping and while in a trance, receive visions and guidance.
This medicine man or woman would ensure the well being of the tribe, protecting them from evil and sickness, predicting the future and ensuring good hunting and rains. Certain animals such as the Praying Mantis and the Eland were honoured and revered and were considered to have great spiritual powers.
The only evidence that remains of these little people is the delicate rock art found on Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, their indelible footprints left of their presence in this vast landscape for generations to come.
With the absence of artificial light, the stargazing at Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is phenomenal and amongst the best in Southern Africa.
Interpretations about the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere are given by knowledgeable guides. Romantic stories of gods and goddesses banished to the heavens are woven into astronomical facts and unfolds before one’s eyes. Discover the ancient myths of the stories told by the San about their visions of the stars.
How better to end a blissful day at Sanbona but to sit reflecting under the star studded canopy of African skies, the vastness of infinite galaxies stretching before one.

A challenging tour, with exciting passages and narrow tunnels, requiring a degree of fitness. For lean people only!
This experience includes the Heritage tour, and then goes to the deeper parts of the tourist route. The tour will require you to crawl, slide on your belly (or back) and climb to get a genuine idea of what spelunking is.
Through memorable spaces like Lumbago Alley, Devils Chimney and the aptly named Devils Postbox, this experience is one never to be forgotten. The duration of the tour is about 90 minutes.
Birds of Eden is home to about 3500 or more birds, this comprises of 220 species. The bird inhabitants comprise a mixture of exotic as well African birds (50/50). All new arrivals at Birds of Eden go through a process of rehabilitation before they enter the actual sanctuary because most of the birds that arrive at Birds of Eden have a history of being caged. Many are also not flighted and have never met another bird. Some are malnourished, have hacked wings or other injuries, some are too friendly, others too rude - whatever the quirk all birds need to go through our rehabilitation process before release.
After lunch at the Birds of Eden, we will transfer Storms River Mouth Walk in Tsitsikamma National Park.
Starts at Sandy Bay (next to the restaurant) and takes one along a winding board walk through indigenous forest to the mouth of the Storm River, the famous suspension bridge, the Stormsriver Mouth Cave (Khoisan Heritage Site) and to the Spirit of Tsitsikamma boat jetty. After lunch, we will proceed to our afternoon activity which is Kigali Genocide Memorial.
This is an extremely moving, challenging, educational and ultimately inspiring memorial and great place to understand the cause, tragedy and successful rebuilding of Rwanda post genocide.
The reconciliation and rebuilding has been miraculous and these memorials are built to inform, educate and prevent such a tragedy to ever occur again.
The tour is very transparent and educational but very somber and humbling when you realize that over 250,000 deceased are buried on the site of the memorial. Guaranteed you will feel every emotion during this visit.
The most common question that goes through your mind is “would I be capable of that level of forgiveness if I found myself in this situation”. That’s true inspiration.
After this activity, we will transfer back to our accommodation and relax with accommodation facilities.
Today you will have a relaxed breakfast as your check out will be at 9 am. After check out, you will embark in your vehicle for 2.5 hour scenic transfer to Volcanoes NP.

The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is an expansive, 12-acre property that rests adjacent to the Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. The campus showcases the best in sustainable architecture, local resourcing, and environmentally responsible practices and will offer state-of- the-art laboratories, a scientific conservation library, and meeting space for large groups. The goal of the campus is to inspire everyone who visits, to cherish gorillas and encourage a lifetime of conservation.
After this great experience, we will return to our accommodation for evening activity which is Gorilla Doctors presentation.
At 6 pm, in the conference room next to the lodge lobby, we have arranged a special presentation with the Gorilla Doctors. These dedicated veterinarians and assistants play a special role in ensuring Gorillas populations continue to grow by treating injured and sick animals and protecting them from potentially catastrophic diseases. Imagine if your population was only 1000 how fragile your existence can be and you then understand the critical role The Gorilla Doctors have played in the growth of the Mountain Gorillas. The presentation will go through their work, the threats and what they have learnt about Gorillas.
After the presentation you will have your dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, we will depart at 6:30am after breakfast as we take you to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for your trek briefing.
Today you have a unique and privileged experience to trek and meet at close quarters the rare Mountain Gorilla. There are only around 1063 of these magnificent creatures left in the world with around 1/3 of those in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda.
Early in the morning after breakfast you will be taken to the park headquarters where you will be educated on the trek, Gorilla behavior and assigned in to groups of suitable fitness.
The trek can take between 2-6 hours depending on the movements of the Gorillas. This is considered one of the great natural animal encounters on the planet.
The rangers will lead you deep into the forest in search for the Gorillas. You will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures that will entertain you with performances for about 1 hour once you find them.
After this activity, we will transfer to our lodge for freshen up, and have lunch.
The whole afternoon is yours to relax with the lodge facilities or else you can ask you guide some extra optional activities which can be done in this afternoon.
After breakfast, you have a choice between completing one of the below optional activities (on own account) as per below dropdown arrow or simply use the morning to rest and relax at the lodge.
